Tips Home - Hi-Tech Alarm Systems for the Home Offer More than Just Security |
| |
If you have been looking around for a new home alarm, you may have noticed that there are literally tons of home security companies out there right now competing for your business. But how do you know which company would be the perfect fit for your home security needs? Unfortunately, there is no security company that will be the perfect fit for everyone, just as there is no one-size-fits-all alarm system.
What you can do is be proactive in your search for a new alarm system by asking the right questions when interviewing home security companies. You will find some of those questions listed below.
Is the company licensed to do business in my area?
No matter how simple your alarm system installation may seem, you want to make sure that you only have a licensed alarm company handle the installation for you. Since state licensing requirements for home security companies can vary greatly by state, it is important for you to ask for proof of licensing and verify its legitimacy before proceeding any further.
Is the alarm system that the company is offering to install easy to upgrade later?
Many of the newer security systems being installed nowadays are easy to upgrade and add devices to, especially wireless systems. However, it is ultimately up to you to ask this question when interviewing potential home security companies. You don’t want to spend money now on a new alarm system only to find out a few years down the road that you will need to spend more money just to add something as simple as a door transmitter or a motion detector.
Does the company offer cellular alarm monitoring?
Cellular alarm monitoring works great in homes that have no landline or homes that utilize VoIP phone service. Many home security companies offer this service. Some are even installing alarm systems with cellular technology already built inside of them.
How hard will it be to set up my new alarm system?
When you choose to leave your alarm installation in the hands of the professional home security companies, you will not need to worry about asking how hard the system will be to set up. But, if you are going the DIY route and have decided to install your own alarm system, this is one of the first questions you should ask.
Who will be providing my monitoring service?
Will the company that is installing your alarm system be the same company that monitors it? Or will they program your alarm system to dial a third-party company that will be providing the monitoring? Do not be alarmed if any home security companies tell you that they outsource their monitoring to another company. This is a common practice in the alarm industry.
On the other hand, alarm monitoring is just as important as the alarm system that gets installed in your home, so knowing who will be providing the service should be one of the first questions you ask all prospective home security companies.
